More Than 56 Local Agencies and Municipalities to Benefit from VirTra’s Immersive Training for de-escalation and crisis situations

Tempe, Ariz. — August 22, 2017 — VirTra, Inc. (OTCQX: VTSI), a global provider of training simulators for the law enforcement, military, educational and commercial markets, today announced that Missouri’s St. Louis County Police Department has installed a VirTra V-300 simulator to train local law enforcement on de-escalation and split-second decision-making in life-threatening situations.

Recent officer use of force incidents in the country have resulted in a focus on ensuring high quality law enforcement training. However, many law enforcement agencies struggle with budgetary issues. St. Louis County purchased the VirTra system through a donation by the Berges Family Foundation and  the St. Louis Police Foundation in response to the critical need for better judgmental use of force and de-escalation training.

“When I watched other officers go through the VirTra simulator, I saw them – veteran officers – using very good tactics, but they were sweating from the stress and realism of what they were experiencing,” said Deputy Chief Kenneth Cox of the St. Louis County Police Department. “I thought, if it’s that realistic in this big auditorium, then that’s what we need. You could tell it was intense for them.”

The VirTra V-300 is installed at the St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy. Training for local law enforcement will begin by late August. More than  70 police departments and municipalities near Ferguson are members of the academy and can take advantage of the V-300’s interactive training scenarios.

“Proper training is paramount to good law enforcement, and thanks to a generous donation to the St. Louis Police Foundation, area law enforcement can train on the most advanced simulator in the industry,” said Sergeant John Wall, from the St. Louis County and Municipal Police Academy. “We know that more effective training will enable our officers to make better decisions in crisis situations including de-escalation techniques for dangerous situations that our officers face every day in the field.”

“Increasingly, agencies and area governments like St. Louis County, Ferguson, and O’Fallon are recognizing the tremendous advantages that VirTra’s training systems provide, and are turning to our technology to prepare their law enforcement personnel to make better decisions in life-threatening situations that can involve lethal force,” said Bob Ferris, chairman and CEO of VirTra.

The VirTra V-300 system is capable of simulating hundreds of different scenarios that can convey body language and other non-verbal threat cues that are a crucial part of progressive judgmental use of force training. The V-300 also has multiple screens that offer a 300-degree view, and includes peripheral vision and weapons that closely match those used in the field to enhance the transferability of the training to real-life scenarios.

Each training scenario in the VirTra V-300 is based on real-life incidents and is professionally produced with content that is carefully vetted by subject matter experts to rigorously test a trainee’s critical thinking skills, weapons skills under pressure, and psychological responses to the stresses of life-like situations.
