VirTra boasts an extensive library of V-VICTA™ (VirTra – Virtual Interactive Coursework Training Academy) curriculum designed for modern law enforcement training. Each course is methodically crafted to ensure that men and women in law enforcement receive the highest quality training. Every step from conception to debut is reviewed, analyzed and improved by multiple departments inside VirTra, in addition to outside experts.
V-VICTA™ curriculum undergoes six major steps before it is presented to customers:
Step 1: Idea Conception
Not only do VirTra’s internal Subject Matter Experts offer a variety of law enforcement training backgrounds, these professionals also stay current with today’s trends and issues faced by law enforcement. The SME’s experience in the field influences what curriculum topics are most useful to officers, and therefore, will be created. VirTra also is partners with nationally-recognized experts including Haley Strategic Partners and Force Science Institute to assist in course creation.
Step 2: Research
In addition to analyzing trends, the VirTra team conducts detailed research on potential V-VICTA curriculum topics. Existing research is paired with the knowledge contributed by SMEs, who recognize the importance of existing and up-and-coming research and who strive to ensure agencies maximize their training.
Step 3: Writing
Writing V-VICTA curriculum is more than simple script writing. Each module comes with a workbook, which provides officers and trainees room to take notes, follow along in the course and use as reference material. The comprehensive instructor training manuals contain pre- and post-test materials, scenario walkthroughs, lesson plans and grading sheets.
Step 4: Filming
Utilizing high quality motion picture production equipment and professional actors and actresses, VirTra’s production team films at pre-selected locations. From studios to outside locations to in-house at VirTra, the production team goes above and beyond to ensure footage is professional-quality and realistic. Each person featured on-screen is an industry professional, VirTra SME or vetted actor or actress.
Step 5: Editing
Thanks to advanced editing software, the content team ensures that video transitions and branching options are seamless and realistic. Elements shown onscreen are clean with no ‘jumpy’ motions that could break the realism of the scenario. This production takes time, as scenarios are filled with dozens of branching options. Upon completion, the scenarios are tested extensively to remove errors and inconsistencies.
Step 6: Certification
VirTra submits all V-VICTA™ curriculum to IADLEST –International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training—for certification. Each V-VICTA™ course is methodically reviewed by a respected and qualified third party to ensure its quality meets law enforcement training standards and makes a positive impact on officer training. Once the curriculum is approved, it is used with VirTra’s simulators to provide a high-quality, immersive learning and training experience. Currently, VirTra is in the process of developing curriculums for Autism awareness, dog encounters and incident de-escalation.
